A dressing formula

Oversized anythings (in this case: striped jumpers and coats) work so well with teeny tiny bottoms (in this case: a little rib velvet skater skirt). And so do navy and black, which I've paired here - the coat is deep blue and so are the stripes. It's one of my favorite subtle color combos plus it somehow always reminds me of France (see how easy it is to use clothes for imaginary travelling? Which makes them worth their money that much more).

Snowflake by snowflake

Yup, back in massive coats and double layers of tights again... Whatever hope I had for spring approaching was crushed snowflake by snowflake this weekend. I did manage to flirt with the idea of summer a little though, when I bought myself a strappy and happy One Teaspoon dress after Sunday brunch with my girlfriends.

Happy 4th birthday This chick's got style!

YAAAY, it's the blog's fourth birthday! So excited to go in to year five and it's surreal to realize how much This chick's got style has changed my life. What if I had decided not to publish that first post, sitting on my couch on this day exactly four years ago? Not in my wildest dreams could I expect that I'd now be traveling the world, meeting incredible people, and getting to do what I absolutely love as a job.

I'm so incredibly grateful to have you around, thousands and thousands of beautiful, happy, loyal, fabulous readers that enjoy This chick's got style as much as I do. Thank you so much for being around, I honestly can't express how much you mean to me. 

Cheers to a fifth year with even bolder dreams and bigger adventures. And a bite out of the first ever blog birthday cake (it's the chocolate pie from the movie Matilda!) that super intern/photographer Eefje made with love. And on a less sentimental note, playing with confetti is now my favorite past time. 

Spring is in the air

The snow has melted, I'm doing some serious bikini investigation, some festival tickets are booked for months ahead and I got to wear my new deep red hat not merely for stylish purposes but to actually keep the sun out of my eyes. Spring is in the air and I've never been more ready.

Laser cut leather

There's no real reason for me to be wearing this little number with a laser cut leather top other than keeping up with my strict policy to toss out, sell or give away anything that still has it's tags on and I didn't want to get rid of this new-with-tags-but-quite-old dress just yet.

A big pretty interior post

What better moment to feel inspired by pretty homes than a Sunday afternoon (and perhaps it will give you that little push to finally start cleaning your apartment). Out of all the images here, I'm particularly liking the idea of taping art or directly on to a wall - like the polaroids in one of the last pictures. I've been doing it for quite some time with magazine scraps and fun quotes. And since I couldn't change a light bulb to save my life, it's a relief to be able to switch up the art in my home with just some black sticky tape.

Two days in Copenhagen during FW

At the kick off of Copenhagen Fashion Week shoe brand ECCO invited me to Copenhagen for This chick's got style to attend their annual Walk in Style event - which is centered around five European superwoman that support a charity - and get to know the brand better. The little raspberry bag (LOVE that one!), and pretty much all of the boots you see in this post are ECCO. You might be familiar with the brand, but what you (or at least I myself) didn't know is that it's a only a part of their huge company. They've got leather tanneries all over the world that produce for major fashion houses in Paris, New York, Londen and more (yes, I'm talking about those big British, French and Italian ones that we all know, covet and some that I even have designer bags from). Fascinating.

Also on this whirlwind trip to Copenhagen: exquisite lunch in the theatre by the water, the event itself, a tiny bit of shopping (BikBok! Gina Tricot! Weekday! I scored the cutest woven festival shorts seen in the mirror pic) and a few hours of sleep in a delicious bed stacked with piles of fluffy pillows. Although I'm fortunate enough to travel quite a bit for both ELLE and my blog, I enjoy the hotel experience each and every time. I hang out my clothes (and feel proud of the capsule collection I've packed), stall out my jewelry and make-up, take a bath two times a day and walk around in the heavy white robe every nanosecond I can.
